You’ve written a book and you’re starting to sell it.

But…
What do you do now? How do you manage your business?

You know you need a plan.

There are so many moving pieces and decisions to be made in an author’s business. It can be daunting to keep track of them all. Sometimes, writing your book is the easiest part!

You started out with a simple dream to publish the story or book in your heart.

But you’ve had a rude awakening and discovered there’s more to being an indie author, or authorpreneur, than just writing books and uploading them on the distribution sites.

If you’re like many authors, you haven’t had much, if any, business experience or training. Whether you’re a beginning author, or more experienced, you don’t have any idea what it takes to manage the business side of your career.

You’re getting by in your business by the seat of your pants, in a rickety boat full of holes. It’s almost all you can do to keep ahead of everything that gets slammed onto you. It feels like you’re in a storm and rocks are all around you. You may wish you had some guidance or a plan to follow and give you direction.

There Is Help!

As an indie author, I’ve traversed the publishing world and figured it out. Combined with my 25+ years of experience working with small businesses, including being a CFO of a multi-million, multi-national company, I know what you need to manage your business and money.

I know what you need in your business plan that gives you a roadmap of where you want your business to be in the next year or more.

You can try to work through creating a plan on your own. Or continue to manage your business by putting out fires.

Trust me, managing your business by trial and error can be a long, painful, and even costly, process. You may end up doing things in your business because another author is doing them. But, those might not be the right things for YOUR business.

Or you can save yourself time, frustration, and even money, if you seek help from someone who not only knows the indie publishing industry as an author, but understands business principles.

I developed the Author Business Coaching program to give you the tools you need to manage your business, understand your money, and plan for your business success.

This program is available if you write fiction or nonfiction, as I write both and understand the needs of both types of author businesses.

During your coaching program, we’ll explore your business and the decisions you need to make for it to grow as you desire.

What We’ll Cover in the Program

  • Your purpose and reasons for writing
  • Your goals for your books
  • Your money and success mindsets
  • Developing your production plan
  • Evaluating your writing process
  • Creating a distribution plan
  • Assessing your marketing plan, including
    • Your product packaging
    • Your audience
    • Reader communication
  • Exploring available revenue streams
  • And more…

During our introductory call, we’ll determine where you are in your business and what foundations you need to shore up, then we’ll work together to determine the right program for you.

Some people work better with someone setting a hard deadline for them, and snapping the whip (so to speak, and lovingly). Others, this kills their creativity. They need a more flowing, flexible schedule.

While other authors like having someone holding them accountable.

Together, we’ll discover the way that works best for YOU!

One way I do this is to help you work in alignment with your personality strengths (Clifton Strengths) and Human Design. During your program, we’ll incorporate your Human Design and your personality strengths to determine the best way for you to write productively, happily, and healthily.

I use a combination of Zoom calls and the asynchronous app, Voxer. During your Zoom calls, we discuss where you are in your process and your next steps.

Adding Voxer to my coaching programs allows you to ask questions as they arise or receive feedback as you need it rather than waiting for your next coaching session. And it gives me the opportunity to check-in with you between our calls.

FAQs

How does the coaching program work?

I use a combination of Zoom calls and the asynchronous app, Volley. During your Zoom calls, we discuss where you are in your process and your next steps.

Adding Voxer to my coaching programs allows you to ask questions as they arise or receive feedback as you need it rather than waiting for your next coaching session. And it gives me the opportunity to check-in with you between our calls.

How often are the Zoom calls?

We meet face-to-face via Zoom twice a month on the first and third weeks. Currently, I coach on Tues, Wed, and Thursday.

In addition, we’ll have weekly Voxer check-ins, and you’ll be able to ask me questions or for feedback as you need. I’ll also be able to help you celebrate any wins you have as they occur. I love doing this!

How does Voxer work?

Voxer is an asynchnrous communications app, where we can chat via video, voice, or text. It’s completely private. You ask me a question, request feedback, or share a win.

Depending on the time*, within a few hours, I respond. We go back and forth, just like in volleyball, responding and conversing with each other.

We do this until we’ve found the answer to your problem or you receive the feedback you need to move on in your writing.

Using the video feature on Voxer, we still have a face-to-face conversation. It’s amazing how much we can accomplish and how much I can help you in just a few minutes.

*I usually respond within 24 hours. My Voxer hours are between 11am – 8pm mdt, Monday – Thursday.

Why do you use Human Design and Clifton Strengths as part of the book doula program?

We can understand our writing process better when we work in alignment with our Human Design and personality strengths.

This helps so you aren’t beating yourself up for not writing the way you’ve heard other authors do.

We find the ways that work for you to be happy and productive.

What do you need for the Human Design?

For your Human Design, I can run your body graph for you, free. To obtain this, I will need your birth time and place. If you don’t have an exact time, an estimate, such as between 9pm and midnight, would work.

How can knowing my Human Design help me in my author business?

Human Design helps us understand ourselves better and how we access and process energy, how we make decisions, and interact with the world. All of these affect how you manage your author business!

The parts we’ll focus on are your:

  • Type, which tells you how you access and process energy
  • Profile, which tells you how you interact with the world
  • Authority, which tells you how you make decisions
  • Strategy, which tells you how you create and respond to opportunities

What do you need for the Clifton Strengths?

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to take the Clifton Strengths test for at least your top 5 strengths. Currently, this costs $20, and isn’t included in your book doula coaching package. You may want to pay the additional fee to obtain your entire 34 strengths.

Knowing your full strengths isn’t necessary for us to work together, but it can be as helpful to know what aren’t your strengths as what your good at.

I know it’s helped me immensely to know all my strengths. I can stop beating myself up for not being able to do things that just aren’t in my wheelhouse to do.

This sounds great! How do I start?

The first step is to schedule an initial call with me. During this call, we’ll determine if we are a good fit with each other. If we aren’t, no problem. We’ll go our separate ways and have had a good experience meeting someone new.

We’ll also determine if it’s the right time to work together. Sometimes, you think you are but may not quite be in the correct space. If it isn’t, no worries! You can always contact me again when you feel it’s the right time for you.

You have my promise I won’t be trying to sell you on working with me! I only want to work with women for whom it is in both our highest and best good to work together at this time.

I’d love to chat with you about your project and find out if we’re aligned with working together.

Let’s Chat!

Do you offer refunds?

In most cases, no. When you encounter obstacles, you’re more likely to stick with working on your project if you know you can’t easily back out of your commitment to work with me.

If a refund is an option, you might take the easy out rather than work through the issue. This book doula coaching is a commitment to your project and to yourself.

Of course, if there are extenuating circumstances such as a death, illness, etc, we can discuss putting your book coaching on hold or something else.
